RUDRA'S POV:

Mom got a call from her brother who lives in a near by town, close to Bangalore itself that her father is not feeling well. (My grandfather)

Mom and dad have been away from their families ever since they got married. As far as I know my mom's parents did not agree to their love because of caste and the regional difference, as you can see my dad(Ram Chandra Reddy) is from Andhra Pradesh and mom (Roopa Gowda) from Karnataka.
My grandfather was a government officer and had to move in to a town in Andhra for his job so naturally his family followed and mom met dad who was her neighbour. They fell in love, mom's parents did not agree and bought her another alliance so naturally dad had to step in. They tried to convince but nothing worked meanwhile dad got a job in Bangalore and they took the big step.

Dad's parents, well they knew about them and as far as I was told they were neutral about it that they remained silent but never wanted their son to elope with their neighbour's girl. Who would want that seriously. But what happened had happened.

Dad and mom settled in Bangalore. They supported each other and mom completed her education as well. Later I was born.
Mom's parents shifted to a village (now a town) near Bangalore permanently and were finally okay with my parent's relationship though they reached for us and opened up their affection, mom did not accept them back. She did talk to them and went to visit them once in a while only after my dad persuaded her to think from their side too though he did not personally like them a bit because they behaved like that in the beginning. Mom's mother (my Grandmother) passed away after a few years of my birth.

Since then grandfather was taken care of my mom's elder brother Vikas Gowda. He himself was married later according to his parent's choice and is leading a happy life with his wife Leelavati and daughter Nivedita. I met them and Vikas uncle was not bad but he was not personally affectionate to me either even till date but he was there for us as a elder man, even when dad expired and I respect him for that.

Coming back to the present, Grandpa was sick and mom had to leave immediately. Judging by my uncle's tone, I could sense it was serious but I could not leave. My colleague was on a long medical leave after his accident and I have been taking his classes too since then my work burden increased, since I have been procrastinating it due to my exam preparation I cannot leave now.
So mom left at 4 in the evening and I told her to inform me if it was an emergency.

Now it was going to hit 9 at night and finally I had completed setting the question paper sets and updating the student's attendance and performance analysis. Now I just need to prepare for my classes tomorrow. I feel exhausted. So I decided to make some coffee and get back to work after that I need to study again for at least an hour before hitting the bed.

DEVI'S POV:

I was in the kitchen listening to mom talk while stirring the curry on the stove. She has been speaking non stop about all the activities she does back home including the stupid gossips of the neighbourhood.
Seriously no one would believe she is a business woman. But I love listening to her though. Dad and Ram are outside. They wanted to "explore" the locality.

Suddenly my phone rang and it was Ramya aunty, she left hurriedly back then. I hope everything's fine. I told mom to look after the curry and came to the living room to decrease the volume of the speakers that have been playing songs for a while now. Ram cannot even breathe without listening to music. He left it on and honestly his song choices are good. I picked up the call.

"Devi ?" Auntie called.
"Ha Auntie..?" I replied
"Have your parents arrived?" She asked softly
"Yes auntie, they arrived long back." I replied and questioned  "Where are you, you left hurriedly back then. Is everything alright?"
"Yes ma everything is alright. I just got a call from my brother saying that my dad is not feeling well and I had to leave immediately.' She said
"What? Is he alright auntie" I asked concerned
" Don't know ma, he had a stroke and is now being operated. It is the 3rd time and I do not know..." She stopped and continued "Rudra could not come due to work and I did not prepare anything for him to eat. I called to ask you to check upon him and see if he has eaten. It is just that he ignores everything while he works."

"Do not worry auntie, Grandpa will be alright. I hope everything goes well and about Rudra you do not need to say twice. I will take care of him." I spoke and paused thinking about my words. Oh my god what was I thinking. He is not a kid that I said those words easily!

AUTHOR'S POV:

Roopa smiled listening to Aarna. She knew she should not be thinking otherwise but she felt peace after hearing to her. How she wanted these words to be meant for forever.

After that Roopa cut the call while Aarna went back to kitchen. Meanwhile her Brother and father came back home and dinner was ready too. While Ramya was arranging the food to serving bowls she looked at her daughter preparing a carriage box she was confused and asked "Devi? Why are you packing the food ma?"
"Oh ma. The thing is...." Aarna paused thinking whether it was appropriate to tell her parents about her packing food to her neighbour who is a man or not but anyhow she had to introduce them sooner or later so she continued "the neighbour auntie who would often take care of me went to her home town and asked me pass dinner to her son who is next door so."

"Oh that woman who took care of you all the time? I was meaning to meet her. When will she come back?" Ramya asked while beginning to put extra rice into the box Aarna was packing.

Aarna smiled noticing her mother and said "Don't know. her father was not feeling well it seems."
"Oh! Hope he recovers soon." Ramya said

After packing, Aarna walked to the main entrance while Ramya stopped her saying "Wait let me come too. I want to at least meet that nice woman's son. What's his name by the way?"

"Rudra" said Aarna while smiling with glistening eyes.

Ramya could bet she say that "something" in her daughter's eyes which was not just something but meant so much more.
